Mayor Welcomes Athletes at Dragon Boat Festival Fiesta

The city government organized a welcome party for the athletes attending the 2010 Taipei International Dragon Boat Festival in the evening of June 12 at the Dajia Riverside Park.

During his address, Mayor Hau Lung-bin noted that the scale of this year’s dragon boat competition is the largest in the history of the city-sponsored event, attracting 213 domestic and international teams.

The mayor welcomed the teams to Taipei, expressing his hope that all participating athlete will demonstrate good sportsmanship during the competition. He encouraged the attendees to use the opportunity to experience the things Taipei City has to offer – especially the great food and fascinating culture.

The mayor reminded the audience that the city government will be hosting the 2010 Taipei International Flora Expo starting in November. He invited everyone to come to the exciting exhibition.

Dignitaries attending the ceremony include the representatives from Guatemala, El Salvador, and the Philippines.

Following the reading of the athlete’s oath, the party spotlighted performances by selected teams, the flower faerie mascots of the Flora Expo, and the students of Taipei Physical Education College.
